New Law Forces Priests to Break the Seal of Confession in Washington State

New Law Forces Priests to Break the Seal of Confession in Washington State

I wanted to let you know that I’ve launched a very important petition drive that opposes a new law in Washington State that forces priests to break the seal of confession.

The punishment if they don’t? Jail time.

Legislation like this has been proposed before. However, it failed every time.

But this year… it passed!

That’s why I’ve just launched this petition drive to Governor Bob Ferguson and the members of the Washington State Legislature, asking them to repeal the bill SB5375 immediately.

Even if you are not from Washington, you can still sign the petition. An offense to God is an offense to all Catholics of good faith.

Now, priests in Washington will be confronted with an impossible choice: excommunication or prison.

You know as well as I that anti-Catholic lawmakers have been threatening our Faith for years. That’s why I launched this petition drive – because we need to let them know that anti-Catholic laws are not welcome in America.

I hope you will add your name to the petition and make your voice heard.

To: Bob Ferguson, Washington Governor,
Members of the Senate and House,

Since there is absolutely no evidence that reporting sins revealed to a priest in confession would protect children, the state has no need or right to break the Seal of Confession, a sacred sacrament of the Catholic Church.

That is why I protest your passing of SB5375, which removes the priest-penitent privilege in the Sacrament of Confession.  You cannot tamper with the Seal of Confession, nor can you make the Catholic Church a ward of the State.  Repeal SB5375 immediately.

Sincerely,
